Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Value
99.99% pure gold in four sizes. One of the purest gold coins available anywhere.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is one of the purest gold coins available at 99.99% (24 karat). Produced by the Royal Canadian Mint since 1979, it comes in four sizes from 1/10 ounce to a full ounce. The 24-karat purity means there is virtually no alloy in these coins, just gold.

How to Identify a Gold Maple Leaf
Obverse: Portrait of the reigning monarch. Older coins show Queen Elizabeth II. Coins from 2023 onward show King Charles III.
Reverse: A detailed maple leaf, Canada's national symbol. The purity "9999" and the weight are inscribed. Recent issues (2014+) include a micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark as a security feature.
What Affects the Price
Size premiums. Smaller fractional coins (1/10 oz and 1/4 oz) carry higher premiums per ounce than the full 1 oz version. This is standard across all bullion coins.
Condition. 24-karat gold is softer than alloyed coins. Maple Leafs scratch easily. Minor handling marks are normal and rarely affect the selling price.
Year. Most dates trade at identical premiums. The 1979 first-year issue carries a small premium.
Maple Leaf vs. Gold Eagle
Both are popular one-ounce gold coins, but they differ in purity. The Maple Leaf is 99.99% gold (24 karat). The American Gold Eagle is 91.67% gold (22 karat). Both contain one troy ounce of pure gold. In terms of gold value, they're equal. Maple Leafs trade at slightly lower premiums than Gold Eagles in the US market.
